Transcript of letter from Maria Carolina von Herder to Emilie von Einsiedel

Caroline Flachsland and the theologian, poet and philosopher Johann Gottfried Herder (1744–1803) married in 1773. She became the mother of seven children. Besides the large household, she also managed her husband's business with ministries and publishers. She ordered and checked the "last correction" and gave impulses to continue his work. As "Herder's other self", following the death of her husband, Caroline von Herder went through his literary estate, edited the complete edition of his work and wrote his biography. In the autumn of 1804, she decided to move from Weimar to Jena, where her friends, the couple von Einsiedel lived.
