The wooden panel depicting ancient warriors comes from one of six double doors opening onto the Grand Staircase (Großes Treppenhaus) of the palace. It was designed by the sculptor and master builder Andreas Schlüter, who was responsible for both the interior and the exterior design of the palace. In this capacity, he supervised the painters, gilders, stuccoers, woodcarvers and other craftsmen who realized his artistic plans, turning the inside and outside of the palace into a total work of art designed to glorify the king.
