Rope and cord played an important role in obtaining
food. Fishermen or women used cedar cords as
fishing lines to catch halibut, salmon, rockfish, and ling
cod. Sometimes basket traps woven from cedar were
used to catch salmon and other fish. Once the fish
had been trapped, they were lifted out of the water in
landing nets made of cedar bast cords.
