The Venus XV is around 30,000 years old and may be the oldest portrait in the world. It is much more realistically worked than seems to have been customary at that time. The face carved into the ivory even shows an individual facial expression. It is thought to be a depiction of a prominent personality, perhaps a dignitary with medical or religious powers.
