Jahn intends to translate texts from Senghor's book “Liberté I” for a German-language anthology; Senghor gives his consent. The book appeared in 1967 under the title “Négritude und Humanismus” (Négritude and Humanism). It is a collection of Senghor’s essays and speeches from 1937 to 1963, mostly in the form of essays, which relate to the situation of Black cultures in Africa, Europe and worldwide. Despite the great diversity of topics, the terms Négritude and humanism form the core of the book, thematically encompassing all the essays. It deals with the description and definition of African civilizations, their characteristics and richness (Négritude) as well as the contribution they can make towards a universal culture.
