Correspondence Janheinz Jahn - Aimé Césaire

  • Typescript
  • Janheinz Jahn
  • 4. August 1953

In his first letter to Aimé Césaire, Janheinz Jahn presents himself and his project: he plans to publish an extensive German-language anthology with works by Black authors from North America, the Caribbean islands, Africa and Latin America. Jahn does not yet name any texts he would like to translate, merely his motives: "I´m delighted that the prestigious publisher Carl Hanser, who only recently published an anthology of poems from the Occident and an anthology of poems from the Orient, is now also devoting a third volume to the new black poetry. For an anthology such as this one is truly sorely needed in this country where, after twelve years of Nazi propaganda, the cultural achievements of non-white peoples are simply ignored."
