Festive

This fragment of a pillar originally belonged to the staircase leading to the famous White Hall (Weißer Saal) in the north-west wing of the palace. In 1728 it was converted into a magnificent ceremonial hall by King Frederick William I. Located at the far end of what became known as the Parade Rooms, this hall provided an appropriate setting for formal events and important ceremonies until the end of the monarchy. Like many other rooms in the palace, the White Hall and its adjacent staircase were repeatedly altered by the Hohenzollern dynasty to conform to changing tastes. The face of the palace was constantly being transformed.
